Boxwood Property Fund is proud to announce the appointment of Fayaz Dhorat as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). With over 13 years of professional experience across all property sectors, Fayaz brings a sharp analytical mindset, a passion for data, and a proven track record of financial leadership to the executive team.

Fayaz’s journey into the property sector began unexpectedly – recommended for a role by a friend, he left an accounting role at an audit firm and found himself in a junior, operational position at a property company. It was a steep learning curve, but one that revealed the power of finance and data in driving strategic decisions. What started as a short-term opportunity quickly evolved into a career-defining path.

Since joining Boxwood, Fayaz has played a pivotal role in supporting the fund’s growth and diversification. On just his third day at the company, he was already involved in assessing a potential acquisition – one that would become Boxwood’s first move outside of office property. The pace was fast and the stakes high, but Fayaz thrived in the challenge. He went on to lead the company through its first IFRS audit, helped structure bank financing, and adapted rapidly as the Covid-19 pandemic unfolded. His ability to combine strategic insight with steady execution has made him an essential member of Boxwood’s leadership team.

As CFO, Fayaz sees financial discipline not as a constraint, but as an enabler. “It’s about being bold, but informed,” he says. “We move faster and make better decisions when our financial foundations are solid.” His vision is to embed finance at the heart of every decision – testing assumptions, running scenarios, and uncovering opportunities that others might miss. He views data analytics and financial modelling as “decision-making superpowers,” capable of unlocking value and reducing risk across the portfolio.

One of Fayaz’s standout qualities is his belief in empowering young leaders – a philosophy that aligns deeply with Boxwood’s culture. “I’ve lived what it means to be backed before you feel ready,” he says. “That early trust pushed me to grow faster and think bigger. It’s something I carry into my own leadership approach – looking for ways to give people the same opportunity to step up and contribute meaningfully, no matter where they are in their career.”

He adds: “What I’ve seen at Boxwood is that when people are trusted to lead from within, they bring a sense of ownership that you can’t manufacture. It fuels loyalty, but also creativity – because people know the business, understand its values, and feel personally invested in its success. That combination makes us more agile, more aligned, and more ambitious. It’s not about hierarchy – it’s about unlocking the full potential of your team.”

Fayaz’s recent qualification as a Chartered Accountant marks a personal milestone. “There are still moments where it feels a bit unreal,” he reflects. “For a long time, I didn’t think becoming a CA was within reach, but I found a route that worked for me and gave it everything.” The achievement is not just a professional credential – it’s a testament to resilience, dedication, and the support of those who believed in him.

Outside of work, Fayaz is a proud father of three young children. Life beyond spreadsheets is all about family. “There isn’t a whole lot of time for personal hobbies right now and that’s okay,” he laughs. “These days, I find joy in the simple things: a quiet moment, a good nap, or just being lazy when I can get away with it. It’s not glamorous, but it’s real – and right now, that balance is exactly what I need.”

Reflecting on his leadership journey, Fayaz doesn’t credit a single mentor or moment. Instead, he points to a series of opportunities, challenges, and people who trusted him. “It started with someone taking a chance on me, and that changed everything.”

When asked what advice he’d offer young professionals, Fayaz keeps it simple: “Start small, stay curious, and don’t wait until you have all the answers. Focus on adding value wherever you are. Build relationships. And back yourself – consistency and resilience will take you further than you think.”

CEO Rob Kane shares his confidence in the appointment:

“At Boxwood, we place strong emphasis on developing young leaders and promoting from within. Fayaz is a product of that philosophy. He’s experienced first-hand the power of being given trust and responsibility early in his career — and he’s thrived because of it. When young professionals are given space to grow, take ownership, and contribute at a senior level, it brings fresh energy and perspective into the business. We’ve seen how promoting from within not only builds loyalty, but also drives innovation. Fayaz brings new ideas, sharp thinking, and a deep understanding of our culture and values. He embodies the spirit of Boxwood — ambitious, thoughtful, and always learning. We’re excited to have him in this critical role as we continue to grow and evolve.”

Fayaz’s appointment reflects more than just a new title — it’s a reflection of Boxwood’s commitment to nurturing talent, trusting potential, and building the future from within. With a rare blend of technical depth, strategic clarity, and grounded leadership, Fayaz is well-positioned to help lead Boxwood’s next chapter of bold, disciplined growth.
